An Iowa Republican congressman says he thinks former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 and that she's among a few people who could win the state's leadoff caucuses.U.S. Rep. Steve King said Tuesday he initially thought Palin ended her political career when she resigned as governor last summer. But he said during a taping of an Iowa Public Television show that she's now in a far stronger position to succeed.

Iowa Gov. Chet Culver has named Bret Mills as the state's new director of economic development.Culver announced Mills' appointment on Monday, filling a position that has been the center of controversy over the handling of a tax credit program for movie makers.

Authorities say a Davenport police officer who fatally shot a man at a hotel was justified in the use of deadly force.Scott County Attorney Mike Walton on Wednesday released the results of investigation into the Dec. 12 shooting at the Steeplegate Inn.
AMES
The city of Ames and Iowa State University will soon buy wind-generated electricity from a farm near Zearing.Officials say the plan is to buy enough wind power to supply 30 megawatts of output for Ames and six megawatts for the university. That totals about 15 percent of the electricity needs of Ames and about 10 percent of the university's.

San Diego State extended the nation's longest active win streak in overtime games to nine Tuesday after outlasting Drake 76-73 in OT.The Aztecs (9-3) took advantage of poor free-throw shooting by Drake and scored the first six points in the extra period to take command and keep their OT streak alive.
CEDAR FALLS
The University of Northern Iowa along with two Iowa community colleges have formed a business and agriculture partnership with two universities in Brazil.Together the five schools announced Tuesday that they would form an Iowa-Midwest Brazil Exchange in Business and Agriculture Program. The community colleges include Kirkwood Community College and Hawkeye Community College.

No. 10 Iowa earned its berth in the Orange Bowl on the strength of tough and opportunistic defense. The Hawkeyes' offense often did just enough to keep from holding the team back.Iowa (10-2) beat Arizona, Penn State and Wisconsin on its way to earning the school's second BCS bowl bid, but the Hawkeyes' languid attack left them frequently playing from behind or scrapping to get by.

Iowa State used a long layoff to revert back to the team that started the season on fire - not the one that stumbled earlier this month.Marquis Gilstrap scored a season-high 25 points and Iowa State pounded Bradley 87-68 on Sunday in one of its most impressive wins of the season.
IOWA CITY
Iowa starting guard Anthony Tucker has been suspended after Iowa City Police said he was arrested for public intoxication.Iowa athletic director Gary Barta said Sunday that the 20-year-old Tucker, the team's second-leading scorer with 11.9 points per game, would be suspended indefinitely. Officials at the Johnson County Jail said Tucker pleaded not guilty to one count of public intoxication and was released Sunday on $325 bond.
IOWA CITY
Matt Gatens scored 18 points and Anthony Tucker added 17 as Iowa beat Drake 71-67 Saturday night.Gatens also had nine rebounds and five assists for the Hawkeyes (4-7), who avoided being swept by their three instate rivals for the first time.
