Carroll County officials say two children were injured, one of them seriously, when a tree fell on them at a county-run nature camp.County spokeswoman Vivian Laxton says a 9-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The boy, who was seriously hurt, was then transferred to Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. The girl was treated and released.

Law enforcement officials in Salisbury say the entrance to the Arthur W. Perdue Stadium is serving as a temporary memorial for 11-year-old Sarah Haley Foxwell.Police say the public can leave mementos at the stadium starting Tuesday. They ask that items not be left at the spot where the girl's body was found.

CSX Corp. says it is investigating whether any of its trains hit a 12-year-old Cumberland boy who was seriously hurt while allegedly cutting across the company's property.The boy was being treated Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for injures he suffered Monday night. His name and condition haven't been released.

Baltimore has topped last year's homicide total.Police say three slayings over the weekend pushed the homicide count to 235. Last year, the city recorded 234 homicides - the lowest total since 1988.

Maryland's highest court has ordered prosecutors to continue searching for possible DNA evidence in the case of a former D.C. prison guard serving life in prison for rape.In a 4-3 decision issued last week, the Maryland Court of Appeals overturned a Montgomery County circuit judge who said the court had already "bent over backwards" to help Tyrone Horton try to find evidence that prosecutors said had been destroyed.

Commercial lender CapitalSource Inc. on Tuesday said it received about $119 million in cash proceeds after closing mortgages backed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.The mortgaged facilities are among 40 that are slated for sale to Omega Healthcare Investors Inc. around April 1. It will be the second phase of a three-part sale of 103 long-term care facilities to Omega.
