Missouri has two new federal prosecutors.The Senate last week confirmed the appointments of Richard Callahan and Beth Phillips to be U.S. attorneys. Callahan was a Cole County judge and will be the U.S. attorney for Eastern Missouri. Phillips was an assistant federal prosecutor and will be the U.S. attorney for Western Missouri.

St. Louis Circuit Court clerk Mariano Favazza is vowing to fight efforts by a state panel to limit his relevance.KMOX Radio reports that Favazza is upset over an administrative committee's efforts to revoke his hiring and firing rights and turn them over to the presiding judge.

A St. Louis officer accidentally shot and killed an apartment resident while responding to a burglary call.It happened Monday night. The name of the victim is expected to be released on Tuesday after relatives are notified.

A pair of Missouri Tigers swept the Big 12 Conference's weekly honors for men's basketball.Sophomore guard Kim English was named the league's Player of the Week Monday after scoring 24 points in a win over Illinois and 23 points in Missouri's defeat of Austin Peay.

Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine are recruiting families with overweight children for a study to help kids and parents lose and keep off pounds.The two-year study will look at families with one or more children between the ages of 7 and 11 who are at least 20 percent above their ideal weight.

Missouri environmental officials say 39 drinking water systems have repeatedly failed to complete required testing.The state Department of Natural Resources requires Missouri's roughly 2,800 public water systems to test for bacteria each month. Slightly more than 1 percent have regularly failed to conduct the tests over the past year.

The mystery started the day farmer Russ Kremer got between a jealous boar and a sow in heat.The boar gored Kremer in the knee with a razor-sharp tusk. The burly pig farmer shrugged it off, figuring: "You pour the blood out of your boot and go on."
