While federal lawmakers debate whether to eliminate health care roadblocks for people with pre-existing medical conditions, the new year should provide sick people in Ohio with an easier time buying health insurance, and at less expense.When lawmakers approved the current state budget, they included changes in Ohio health coverage rules that go into effect Friday, such as a cap on premiums for those with ailments who are shopping for a health plan on their own.

Two brothers are retiring from top jobs at an Ohio shopping mall development company with properties in 11 states.The Cafaro Co. of Youngstown says president Anthony M. Cafaro Sr. and vice president John J. "Jay" Cafaro will retire Thursday. Each has worked for more than 35 years with the family-owned company.

Authorities say they found at least three dead horses and removed six live horses along with a pony and donkey from a farm in southwest Ohio.Clermont County Sheriff A.J. Ohio is trying to collect legal costs from a former state administrator who helped expose misspending at anti-poverty agencies more than a decade ago.The state wants $34,000 stemming from litigation filed by Terry Wilkins, who was fired from the Ohio Department of Development in 1993. Wilkins says it's wrong for the state to take money from a whistleblower.

Authorities say two people have died in a house fire in Brown County in rural southern Ohio.Authorities say the homeowner and her son escaped the Monday night fire, but that a relative of the homeowner and a friend were found dead inside.
