The leader of Washington state's Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is headed to a new job in Washington, D.C. Lynnae Ruttledge has been chosen by the Obama administration to run the federal vocational rehabilitation program.Ruttledge says she wants to improve the federal program like she is credited with doing for Washington's after arriving in Olympia four years ago.
FORT LEWIS
A Fort Lewis soldier who recently returned from Iraq is one of three men accused in a home-invasion robbery in Thurston County. The Thurston County Sheriff's office says all three men were carrying weapons. The robbery was described in court papers as a "hostile takeover" of the residence.Thurston County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Mealy says the men took electronics, including computers and a television, as well as cash and an iPod.

The state game officer kept his binoculars trained on a tightly clustered group of about 70 elk in a pasture surrounded by several men armed with high-powered bows.The herd would run from one end of the pasture to the other, led by the ranking elk cow. A few of the animals had arrows embedded in their hides and were bleeding but were still upright and running.

One of two officers shot in an ambush last week by a drunken man in Washington state died Monday after being taken off life support, becoming the sixth police officer to die from gunfire in the state in less than two months.Pierce County sheriff's Deputy Kent Mundell, 44, died with his family at his side shortly after 5 p.m., said sheriff's office spokesman Ed Troyer, tears welling up in his eyes.

One of the Pierce County sheriff's officers shot in an ambush by a drunken man has died after being taken off life support, a sheriff's spokesman said Monday evening.Deputy Kent Mundell suffered life-threatening injuries and had been hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle since the shooting a week ago. He died at 5:04 p.m. with his family by his side, Detective Ed Troyer said.

The head of Seattle's Transportation Department says she's stepping down to start her own consulting company. Grace Crunican was criticized for her handling of Seattle street-clearing efforts during last December's snowstorms.Outgoing Mayor Greg Nickels, who also drew fire for the icy, rutted streets, said in a statement Monday that he considers Crunican "the finest local transportation director in the nation."
