Midyear budget cuts are in store for all three branches of West Virginia state government to avoid a potential budget deficit now estimated at $120 million.Gov. Joe Manchin on Monday ordered all executive branch agencies, including those headed by other elected officials, to trim general revenue spending by 3.4 percent. They have until Jan. 20 to explain how they will meet that mandate.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says red meat production in West Virginia dropped by 28 percent from October to November.The agency says production last month totaled roughly 900,000 pounds of beef, veal, pork, lamb and mutton. That's up 8 percent over November 2008, but down significantly from a month before.
