Statement By Alliance President and CEO Nelson Smith Concerning the Resignation of California Charter Schools Association President Caprice Young

Distributed by Press Release

LOS ANGELES (Map) - LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by National Alliance for Public Charter Schools President and CEO Nelson Smith:

"Caprice set the gold standard for what a state charter school organization executive ought to be. She redefined CCSA as a provider of a wide array of charter schools services that reduced schools' costs and increased their efficiency. At the same time she built the organization into a powerful engine for advocacy that always had seats at the table from Sacramento to the city halls. Above all else though, she made 'high-quality' the watchwords for public charter schools in California."

Caprice Young announced today that she is stepping down as President of the CCSA to accept the position of Vice President, Business Development and Alliances with Knowledge Universe. Young will continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools.

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools (www.publiccharters.org) is the national nonprofit organization committed to advancing the charter school movement. The Alliance works to increase the number of high performing charter schools available to all families, particularly low-income and minority families who currently do not have access to quality public schools. The Alliance provides assistance to state charter school associations and resource centers, develops and advocates for improved public policies, and serves as the united voice for this large and diverse movement.
