NEWARK – Despite scoring just eight points in a disappointing loss to James Madison on Saturday, the Delaware Blue Hens remained in the Football Championship Subdivision top 25, ranking 23rd in the latest poll by The Sports Network and 25th in the FCS coaches. The latest rankings were released Monday afternoon. The 23rd spot represents a drop of five spots in the TSN poll and nine in the coaches' selections.
The Hens have now been ranked in the national top 25 in each of the last four weeks. They were one of five Colonial Athletic Association teams in both polls and one of eight overall to receive votes. Richmond, the defending national champion, is on top in both rankings, earning 123 of a possible 141 first-place votes from TSN and all 28 from the coaches. The top 10 from both polls were identical; the other CAA teams in the top 10 are Villanova (fourth), William & Mary (fifth) and New Hampshire (eighth).
Delaware (5-3, 3-3 CAA) hosts Hofstra (4-4, 2-3) this Saturday at noon at Delaware Stadium.

Hens soccer players on all-academic team
NEWARK – Kyle Davis and Megan Delaney, soccer players at the University of Delaware, have been named to the ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America District 2 all-academic team.
Davis (left, thanks UD), a biochemistry major and German minor from Hockessin, Del., with a 3.56 grade-point average, was among 12 players selected for the first team based on acacemic and athletic achievements. Delaney (right, thanks again, UD), an accounting major from Gaithersburg, Md., has a GPA of 3.67 and was named to the second team. To be eligible, an athlete must carry a GPA of at least 3.2, have at least sophomore eligibility and be a starter or key reserve for his or her team. District 2 includes New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Washington, D.C., in addition to Delaware.
Davis, who graduated from Wilmington's Salesianum School, has started all of the Hens' 18 games this season. The defender has two assists to his credit. His men's team concludes its season Tuesday at home at 3 p.m. in a Senior Day match vs. Georgia State.
Delaney, also a defender, scored her first collegiate goal Sept. 18 in a win over Delaware State. Her team finished the season at 6-6-5, 3-4-4 in the CAA.

Wilmington men advance in CACC soccer
NEW CASTLE – Wilmington University used a pair of second-half goals and flawless play from goalkeeper Duhan Malali to blank Goldey-Beacom College, 2-0, in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer tournament Monday afternoon at the Kirkwood Soccer Complex. The top-seeded Wildcats advance to the semifinals.
After a scoreless first half, Nicklaus McDonald (left, thanks Wilmington University) found the net six minutes into the second stanza on a pass from Sargbah Tarpeh. McDonald scored from 18 yards out. The second goal came less than two minutes later off the foot of Probyn Allen, who took a pass from Dave Dease and shot from just above midfield. The ball curled over the Lightning goalkeeper and provided the insurance needed for the Wildcats.
The win was Wilmington's 14th straight and improved their record to 19-2. They are ranked 12th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association poll and will play Bloomfield College Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kirkwood.
Goldey-Beacom finished its season with the loss. The Lightning finished the season with a 6-12 mark.
