Commuters scramble in the midst of the SEPTA strike

It's Day 2 of the SEPTA strike, with no near end in sight. As a courtesy for stuck commuters, SEPTA has posted a "Service Interruption Guide" on its Web site, septa.org. The manual lists what services are and are not available during this chaotic time. The guide is listed below.

Service Interruption Guide

LUCY (Loop through University City)
Green and Gold Loop service will operate regular routing from 30th Street Station to selected University City destinations

REGIONAL RAIL TRAVEL INFORMATION

SCHEDULES, PARKING & FARES

All Regional Rail service will operate according to the current published schedule times. Express trains may make additional stops to accommodate the anticipated increase in riders.  Station announcements will be made for any service changes.

Parking is available at most SEPTA Rail stations, although the number of spaces may be limited and lots generally fill up early on weekdays. Daily parking fees will apply at all SEPTA lots.
As our daily Regional Rail riders know, SEPTA is already operating at full capacity.  We are working on adding more cars to some of our regularly scheduled trains but this will likely be for the earlier AM trains.  So we want to encourage individuals and businesses to think about adjusting their work/business hours, in the event of a service interruption.  This will help to make your trip just a little bit more comfortable.

Everyone will face inconveniences whether it’s adjusting to the alternate service options or finding trains even more crowded than usual.  SEPTA Ambassadors, from all departments, will be out working with Operations personnel to provide assistance, answer questions, and help you get where you need to go.  But please be prepared and be patient.

All regular fares will apply during any work stoppage.

Passes offer the best value for your money and will make traveling easier. Weekly and Monthly TransPasses will be valid for travel, at all times, to all Regional Rail stations within the City of Philadelphia except Forest Hills and Somerton. These stations will require a Zone 3 fare – ticket or TrailPass.  During the service interruption, Independence Passes will be accepted on Regional Rail service going to/through Center City before 9:30 a.m.

Student Weekday passes are not valid for Travel on Regional Rail Trains.  Students wishing to use Regional Rail service must upgrade their Student Passes to the appropriate TrailPass needed for travel from the Station used.  The Student will surrender their weekday pass and receive a credit of $3.13 for each valid day of the pass, towards the purchase of a weekly TrailPass.

Purchase fares ahead of time to speed your trip.

Ticket, Independence Passes, and TransPass/TrailPass sales will be available at 30th Street, Suburban, and Market East Stations as well as at outlying stations with ticket offices
SEPTA Sales Offices will be open at 15th Street and 69th Street. All other locations, including 1234 Market Street, will be closed.

Transit Pass Redemption
Unused Passes purchased prior to a service interruption may be fully or partially redeemed.  Customers should retain any unused passes until return instructions are published.

During a service interruption, the SEPTA Service Guarantee and QuietRide Car Programs will be temporarily suspended.

REGIONAL RAIL TRAVEL INFORMATION

TICKET COLLECTION & TRAIN BOARDING

Unless otherwise directed by authorized SEPTA personnel, fares will be collected for each trip. Customers riding during AM/PM peak hours (indicated by the shaded area of the timetable) must purchase tickets prior to traveling – there will be NO cash sales on board trains

During the PM Peak, customers will be asked to wait in line at the concourse level at University City, 30th Street, Suburban, Market East, and Temple University Stations and fares will be collected prior to boarding the train.  All passes will be subject to inspection and will be validated by SEPTA fare collection personnel. To ensure safe boarding and to avoid confusion, SEPTA staff will direct customers when to proceed to the platform.

During peak hour travel, please expect crowding and possible delays.
