Delta Air Lines' summer 2010 schedule will expand service to 17 cities, with the focus being placed on trans-Pacific, trans-Atlantic and African routes. The big winner appears to be Seattle, with new service next year to Osaka, Japan and Beijing, China. There will also be added service from Seattle to Amsterdam, Holland. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, "…the international changes are part of Delta's first fully consolidated schedule published since its merger with Northwest Airlines."
Northwest Airlines had planned to start the Beijing service last year, but those plans were put on hold with the global recession. Delta's 767 will seat 217 passengers where Northwest's A330 would have held 244 passengers.
Delta will reinstate Salt Lake City to Tokyo next year with five weekly departures. The service was put on hold recently but is slated to return in the spring. Atlanta and JFK to Tokyo service will also be making a comeback in 2010, and Los Angeles to Tokyo will see four additional frequencies.
International flight adjustments in Detroit include new non-stop service to Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea. The airline is following up on its promise to make Detroit, its second-largest hub into a major gateway to Asia. Each city will see five weekly flights starting in June, and Shanghai, China service at the same time will go daily. Additionally, seasonal summer service will return to Amsterdam and Rome.
