Won and Walloped

Tuesday’s elections mean different things to different people.
The Speaker of the House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, when asked said ‘we won’ referring to an obscure and muddled House race in the 23rd District in upstate New York.
Virginia Senator Mark Warner, on the other hand, said “we got walloped.” Obviously Sen. Warner was not following the Peolisi designated Party Line.
Former Nebraska Senator, Bob Kerrey said “Every Democrat who is up in either 2010 or 2012 knows that last night was big – if the right wing hadn’t meddled in New York’s 23rd, that would have gone GOP too.”
Kerrey added that his party may be heading for a repeat of history referring to the 1990’s saying “The electorate appears restless and angry. If they begin to ‘vote the bums out’ as they did in 1994, Democrats know that the next election is going to be extremely difficult,”
David Axlerod, senior adviser to the President and architect of the victorious 2008 campaign, said that Tuesday’s results do not suggest any need for policy reappraisal or political positioning by the President or the Party.
 “The CW in town has focused on the governors’ races, but the most portentous event was the New York 23rd because it exposed a major fissure in the Republican Party.”

‘CW’ for those not inside the Beltway means that Mr. Obama and his folk have the Conventional Wisdom that last Tuesday’s two gubernatorial losses meant nothing. They were ‘local races’ and not a referendum on the Obama Presidency.

Either the White House is lying to us and or to themselves. Perhaps both.

Virginia ran a great GOP candidate in McDonnell and New Jersey ran a not so great candidate in Christie.
Both won.

Obama supported both Corzine and Deeds to no avail.

The White House threw Deeds under the bus weeks ago openly stating he was weak and not running a good campaign nor taking their advice. In New Jersey Team Obama thought they could hold on – it is New Jersey after all. The Bluest of all Blue States.

Warner is not alone.

Alabama Congressman Parker Griffin (D) said yesterday “I should be nervous.”
Bill Pascrell (D) from New Jersey said “People who had weak knees before are going to have weaker knees now.”
Speaker Pelosi, she of “We won” fame is now scrambling for votes to get the two thousand pages or so health care ‘reform’ bill through the House. This is what she is tasked to do. I question her sanity as do others
Then we have the same sex marriage law which was shot down in Maine. Another story for another time but even hard core Democrats are questioning this President who promised ‘Hope’ and ‘Change’. Obama now says “I said change is hard”.Read an excellent piece here.
Obama = One Term
