Traveling to battle their North Division rivals, the Toledo Walleye fell 5-2 to the Cincinnati Cyclones at the U.S. Bank Arena tonight.  Toledo battled hard, but Cincinnati's power play led them to the victory, much to the joy of nearly 11,000 fans in attendance.

The Cyclones opened the scoring just over seven minutes in, as Barret Ehgoetz took a nice pass from Jimmy Kilpatrick to deflect the puck just past Walleye goaltender Jordan Pearce.

Just about two minutes later Mark O'Leary of the Cyclones got to Walleye defenseman Brock Wilson after jabbing at Jordan Pearce.  The two dropped the gloves to trade a few punches before heading to the box for their fighting majors.

Cincinnati connected again five minutes into the second period, putting them up 2-0 over Toledo.  Reid Cashman scored on the power play for his first goal of the season.

The Walleye got going just a few minutes later, with J.C. Sawyer hitting the top shelf on a shot from the left circle to put Toledo on the board.  They turned up the heat later in the second on a four-on-three advantage, pressuring Cyclones goaltender Robert Mayer, but Mayer made numerous incredible stops.

Closing out the period on a good note, Evan Rankin continued his scoring streak, tipping in a feed from behind the net from Maxime Tanguay to send both teams to the locker room tied at two.

It was Cincinnati that took the lead back in the third period, again capitalizing on their highly successful power play.  Matt Pierce earned his seventh goal of the season, with Dustin Sproat and Robert Mayer getting the assists.

The Cyclones put another goal on the board as Dustin Sproat grabbed a failed pass from Jordan Pearce, hitting an open area in the net.  Toledo gave a good effort in the final moments, attacking on a six-on four advantage, with one Cyclone in the penalty box and Jordan Pearce on the bench, but it was too little too late.  Cincinnati closed the door on the game with an empty-net goal by Scott Reynolds.

The teams will travel to Toledo for the second portion of the home-and-home series with puck drop tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Lucas County Arena.  It's also team autograph night, with players on hand to sign Walleye gear at various locations around the arena.  Tickets for the game are still available by calling (419) 725-WALL, visiting the Lucas County Arena box office or ordering online.
