Teachers don't want apples for Christmas or apple themed gifts for that matter.  Are you still pondering what to get that teacher on your list for Christmas?  Take it from this teacher -- I can tell you what we want most.

1. Paper -- we want reams of dual use printer paper (that we can sue in the copier too).  Colored paper is even better.  If you can't swing a ream of paper, purchase a package of line paper or a tablet or a spiral.  You cannot believe how much paper we go through and how much more we can use.

2. Markers -- we like Sharpies a lot.  Any kind of markers -- black, colored, it doesn't matter.  We will find a use for them.

3. Staplers -- these seldom make it year to year.  We use them a lot, and kids typically aren't gentle.  Don't forget the staples to use in them.

4. Pencils and/or pens -- for when your children forget to bring them.  We don't like to make kids buy them from us.  It would be so much easier just to have a container of pencils out that children can just go get one if the really need it.

5. Gift cards to office supply stores -- so we can get what we need for the classroom.

We don't want apple themed item or other cutsie gifts.  It isn't that we don't appreciate them, it is just that we need other stuff more.  Please don't give us a gift card to movie theaters or restaurants unless it is enough for two.  We don't have the money either to go out.  I would rather have a home cooked meal delivered to my house.  I really appreciate it if you tell me ahead of time so I haven't cooked dinner too.

The bottom line -- think about who you are buying for.  If you are going to only spend a couple of dollars, we would much rather you spend your money on a pack of pencils than a candle.  Really.
