Will Rogers was born November 4, 1879. Tomorrow would have been his 130th birthday. The Will Rogers Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma will be the center of the 2009 annual tribute to Will Rogers. Events are numerous over a five day period. Make plans now to attend one or all of the events.
Wed., November 4
- Pocahontas Club’s annual tribute, Will Rogers Memorial Museum – 2 p.m.
- “Hats Off to Will” honoring Betty Rogers, Will’s wife
- Bartlesville Indian Women’s Club modeling traditional native attire
- Donna McSpadden, mistress of ceremonies
- Wreath placing at the family tomb
- Club hosts tea in the Memorial Museum
Thurs., November 5
- Birthday Party at the Dog Iron Ranch, Oologah, 9 a.m.
- Musical production by Oologah-Talala Elementary students
- Performance of World Champion Trick Roper, Kowboy Kal
- Birthday Cake and cookies
Fri., November 6
- Children’s Day at the Museum – 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Story telling in Will Rogers Heritage Gallery
- Musical production on stage by the Oologah-Talala Elementary
- Trick roping demonstrations
- Music and games
Sat., November 7
- Antique and Classic car show – Will Rogers Memorial Museum – 12 noon – 2:30 p.m.
- Will Rogers Days Parade – 4 p.m.
- Pocahontas Club – “Bacon, Beans & Limousines” - chuckwagon beans and fry bread at 4:30 p.m. at the Rogers County Building on the grounds of the Claremore Expo-Recreation Center. Open to the public. (Donations accepted)
- Pocahontas Club Phoenix Awards, Robson Performing Arts Center – 7 p.m.
- Featured artist is Jana Jae, the First Lady of country fiddle. Tickets are $10, $20, and $30. For advance tickets, call (918) 341-0298, (918) 283-1588, (918) 798-6950
Sun., November 8
The Will Rogers Gala at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa with Vince Gill. This is a very special and ticketed event. Proceeds in part will benefit the Blue Star Mother’s of America in Tulsa. For more information see the Tulsa Will Rogers Rotary web site.
The presentation of the “Spirit of Will Rogers Award” will be given to Vince Gill by the Rotary Club of Will Rogers (Tulsa). The Spirit of Will Rogers is awarded each year to honor outstanding people that live their lives up to the standards of Will Rogers.

The Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, Oklahoma rests on 20 acres that Rogers purchased in 1911 for his planned retirement home. When he died in a plane crash in 1936, his family donated the land for the existing museum.
