Original Cast of Battle Star Galactica '78

Unless you were living on Caprica at the time of its destruction, you're probably aware of the critically acclaimed reboot of Battlestar Galactica. The series aired on the Sci-Fi Channel (it's SyFy these days) for 4 seasons (2004-2009), and was re-imagined by Ronald D. Moore and David Erick. The series won several Emmy's over the years , a Peabody Award, and TV Critics Choice award. It was, of course, a reboot of the 1978 TV series of the same name, which was created by Glen A. Larson, to cash-in on the success of Star Wars. Universal even released a theatrical version of the TV series' pilot episode— Battlestar Galactica in Sensurround (a gimmick that Universal Pictures used on several films during the early to mid-1970's. Sensurround employed specialized speakers that were installed in theaters which produced a low-frequency sound that would shake the whole theatre. Universal stopped displaying films in sensurround when theatre owners complained about cracks and other damage caused by the low  frequencies sounds, and because moviegoers were complaining that the sound frequency was making them feel dizzy and sick).

Now it seems that director/producer Bryan Singer is teaming up with Larson to make a Battlestar Galactica movie for the big screen, ditching and dissing the fan favorite Moore version. It seems that Larson was not a big fan of the Moore reboot, and wants to develop the original version of Galactica, keeping the original premise and storyline, making it more action oriented, geared for adults. Singer had originally intended to remake the original series for the small screen back in 2000, but the director was distracted by other endeavors and the project stalled. That's when Moore took over.

Now that pre-production has started, any rumors that Singer's next project was going to be "X" related (as in X-Men) has been put to rest, along with any shot he had of helming another Superman flick. There's been no word if Moore will be involved in the re-reboot, yet given the rumored "rocky" relationship between Larson and Moore, it seems unlikely.

Universal has not given a release date for the new Galactica film, but it seems logical to assume that it will probably be in the  summer of 2012.
