Are pirates killing the Xbox 360?

No, I'm not talking about Jack Sparrow and the crew. This past Halloween, Microsoft issued a treat (not a trick) to its users that don't want to follow the rules of gaming. The message informed them that their consoles will no longer be required or desired by the Xbox Live service.
A Microsoft spokesperson recently spoke with IGN about their policy concerning the alterations done to the console.
We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox LIVE.
This tends to be a sensitive subject, as there are multiple groups that have a difference stance on the issue. One group is 100% against it, believing that the health of the industry rests on the purchases that we make or don't. The second group has the "Don't care how you get it, we will take it" frame of mind and feel that they are doing no wrong and the third group, frankly, doesn't care. The gaming industry is very viable and deserves to make a profit, but there needs to be a happy medium. Pricing of consoles, games, and accessories is outright expensive and while the companies shouldn't be forced to lower their prices, not doing so is going to keep the modders/pirates in business. "Modders" stand by the belief that since they purchased the Xbox 360, it is now theirs and they can do whatever changes they want. How do you feel about this issue?
