The U.S. political system has triumphed once again. Yes, it is a joyful day for 'true Christian' voters in Maine who have defeated the Governor and the state's legislature by voting down that states law (which was on hold) allowing gay marriage.
Yesterday, voters in Maine made the state the 31st to uphold traditional marriage. Passage of Question 1, the ballot referendum revealed the voice and the heart of the people of Maine. This action repealed the state legislature's same-sex marriage law, received wide support from Maine churches.
While the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland was a supporter of the repeal campaign both in spirit and financially from the get-go, the more liberal left leaning churches such as the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association opposed the measure. Why not! That's what most would expect from those denominations.
