Being able to buy raw foods locally—other than fresh fruits and vegetables, of course—is a great benefit that Daytonians have not enjoyed much until recently. Which is more fun for you—ordering your food by Internet and waiting a week or more to receive it, or bopping on down to your local grocery store and enjoying it within the hour?
One grocery store that has begun adding raw foods to its product line is Dorothy Lane Market. Although DLM does not carry such goodies as raw cookies and crackers, they do have a selection of raw Woodstock nuts that includes pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, almonds, and walnuts.
From popular raw brand Navitas, DLM has Goji Power Berries, Cacao Power Raw Nibs, Cacao Power Powder, whole chia seed, and acai powder. For your sweet tooth, they offer Larabars and Kookie Karma Raw Lemon Fig bars, as well as Raw Carob Truffle bars.
Two items that are particularly hard to find in Dayton are raw coconuts and wheatgrass. DLM offers Melissa’s Sweet Young Coconuts, and you can get wheatgrass squeezed fresh at their coffee bar.
Convenience is a byword at DLM. You can order a box lunch salad delivered to you that includes a roll, plasticware, and dressing. If you order by 11:00 a.m. and give at least 2 hours notice, you can get your order the same day. The store also offers the “DLM in a Dash” service, where you order groceries online (open 24 hours) and pick them up at the Washington Square location. You can submit your order Monday through Friday by 1:00 p.m. and pick it up between 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Note that DLM in a Dash allows you to have any size order, but there is a flat $9.95 fee for shopping your order for you. If time is money in your life, it’ll be worth it.

Want a raw item the store doesn’t carry? You can put in a special order and see if they’ll be willing to stock the item on a regular basis. Never hurts to ask.
DLM has three locations: Oakwood, Washington Square, and Springboro, and you can visit their web site for further information.
