The San Jose Sharks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 at the HP Pavilion. Ryan Clowe, Dany Heatley and Jamie McGinn scored for the Sharks. Matt Duchene had a short handed goal for Colorado. After the game, most of the story was about Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson who made 43 saves on the night in a losing effort. Here is what two Sharks were saying after the game:

JASON DEMERS, Defenseman
On his great pass to Heatley for a goal:
“Before the game he said I think we are due for a hookup and I said ‘why not?’ It was great that it played out like that. I just saw him in the back door, and I said why not try it, throw caution to the wind, so I kind of closed my eyes on it a bit but he picked it up.”
He closed his eyes?
“I took a quick look, I didn’t have time to look again because I had to focus on the puck. The puck was spinning a lot so I had to hit it just right, I saw him just a little bit but that is all we needed. We want it in Dany’s hands as much as we can because he is a pure goal scorer.”
On the Sharks game as a whole:
“Anderson is a great goalie. He has had a great start to the season. We knew we had to get 30 plus shots to have any chance to beat him because he has just been on fire this year. So we got as much as we could to the net and then we crashed and used our size as much as we could and it finally paid off we finally got to him.”
On how his game is progressing in his first NHL season:
“It is going well. There are a few lapses. I am just trying to learn as fast as I can. They are giving me a lot of chances, they seem to have a lot of confidence in my so far. That gives me confidence. We have a great group of guys that are helping me along the way. And my defensive partner, Kent Huskins, has been great with me. He has helped me a lot. He has kept me calm in certain situations, he has kept me grounded. That is great to have and has helped me enormously.”

ROB BLAKE, Defenseman
On the play of Anderson in net:
"He is a very good goalie. He made some big, big saves for them tonight. But we knew that going into it. That has been the trend. They are 10-1 for a reason and he is a big part of it."
Blake was asked if the team was getting frustrated by not scoring despite the shot totals?
"No, we were very well prepared for what they had. They were outshot like that in Calgary the other night and won 3-2. They revolve around the goaltender and we understand that."
Blake was asked if the team made a conscious effort to increase the shot totals?
"Not really, if it comes and there is an opportunity you are going to shoot. They block a lot of shots and front a lot of shots too. I don’t know how many shots on net we had but they probably blocked another 20 after that."
It looked like the Sharks jumped out to the fast start in the first period:
"I think a lot of it just had to do with the shots. We have not had a shot total like that in awhile. We were doing that last year pretty consistently, upwards of the high 30s and the 40s. We talked about that before the game, especially against a goalie of his caliber and the way he is playing. If you don’t have that many opportunities, I mean if you only have 30 shots, it took us more than that to get our first goal."
On the confidence beating LA and Colorado in back to back games:
"We had not played very well and it was a challenge for us with LA and Colorado coming in here tops in the league in our conference for sure. We got those two. Now we go for three in an afternoon game on Sunday."
On Ryan Clowe’s first goal of the year:
"You know guys when they are pressing. He puts a lot of pressure on himself to score goals to help us win. That was his type of goal too. A shot from the outside and he drove the net and the puck lied there and he put it in. He has been working hard to come out of that and it is very nice to see him get that goal."
