Reenactment of the British taking over St. Augustine.
British Nite Watch

The first weekend in December every year a celebration is held in St. Augustine Florida commemorating the British presence in Florida. This event entitled, "Grande Illumination~British Night  Watch 2009" features a fun packed two days of activities.

A visit to St Augustine at this time not only gave the  visitor an entertaining look at the redcoats marching with fife and drum around the old Castillo de San Marcos but also caroling and a light show. During the day the visitor could embark in a journey  in time and see many of the historical sites of the Old City.

Friday started the activities at the
British Camp in the Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum in St. George StreetAt 8:00 p.m. a free evening concert  was given  with 18th century entertainment.  Saturday was well packed with activities including the main event , The Grande Illumination, the British Night Watch Parade. With over 400 reenactors that not only include  redcoat soldiers but also 18th century town-folk, Indians,and others.
