In the first part of her "Good Morning America" interview, Rihanna said she was humiliated by the public attention when Chris Brown brutally beat her the night before the Grammy Awards show in February. When Diane Sawyer asked, "Why be ashamed?" Rihanna replied:
Because I didn't want people to think that's the kind of person ... that I fell in love with that person. That's embarrassing. That's embarrassing that that's the type of person I fell in love with. So far in love. So unconditional that I went back [after the beating]."
She said it took her awhile to realize what an impact she might have on other young women. Once she did understand that, she decided to stay away from Chris Brown.
When I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn't be responsible for telling them, 'Go back.' Even if Chris never hit me again, who's to say that their boyfriend won't? Who's to say that they won't kill these girls?"
Today's interview was just a peek into the full story. Rihanna will explain in depth what happened on "Good Morning America" on Friday morning. The full interview will air on "20/20" Friday night.
