Jon and Kate Gosselin and their eight children.

As individuals from Gen Y, we have grown up with so called “reality” television shows.  It started out with the very popular Real World on MTV, and eventually grew to the fastest type of genre on television with shows such as Survivor and Dancing With The Stars (just to name a few).  As reality television got more popular, we began to find out that it was not always what it appeared to be.  Specifically, I’m talking about Jon and Kate Plus 8 which airs on TLC.

Both Kate and Jon Gosselin have been acting more like the age of their eight children, rather than the numerical age they supposedly are.  We’ve all seen their ridiculous antics on tabloid magazines such as People and Us Weekly, and not to mention on celebrity shows such as Entertainment Tongiht and Access Hollywood.

Both parents have been bickering back and forth, taking money from their joint bank account, and calling the police on one another.  Yet neither of them seems to be considering what kind of affect this is having on their children.  I’m sure their children do not want to see their father parading around with a girl almost half his age, especially after he’s not yet legally divorced from his wife.  And as for Kate, should she really be making the rounds on television show after television show, talking about how she can not trust anyone in her life anymore?  The real question that should be asked here is who is looking after these children?

Unfortunately, our society feeds off of stuff like this.  We like to hear about the negative stuff going on in people’s lives rather than the positive.  There is talk as to whether the popular TLC program will even continue on, especially since Jon is asking that the children not be filmed in the future (which is probably the smartest thing he has said thus far).  We won’t know the outcome for a while, but you won’t have to look very hard for a magazine or celebrity news show to find out what’s next for the Gosselin family.
