If you have some free time this weekend, take advantage of the beautiful weather and check out some of Austin’s finest amateur golfers. The Austin amateur golf championship will be this Saturday and Sunday; Lakecliff Country Club will host the event. Lakecliff is located on Lake Travis, and this Arnold Palmer design is sure to put even the most skilled players to the test as they make their way through the topography of the Hill Country.
Austin amateurs collect points from various amateur tournaments throughout the year, much in the same way that PGA tour players collect FedEx cup points. The tournament at Lakecliff features the top 50 ranked players; tee times begin at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday. A full list of the field can be found under the "Tee Times" button on the AAG website.
To make the competition even more interesting, non-UIL players have agreed to put up $10 skins for each day. Defending champion Billy Clagett will speak after the field completes their rounds on Sunday. During his talk, Mr. Clagett will hand out awards for Amateur of the Year, Junior of the Year, Senior of the Year, and of course, the winner of the AAG Championship.
The AAG Championship offers a great chance to witness some of Austin’s up and coming golfing talent. Enjoy the beauty of Lakecliff Country Club and celebrate another successful golfing season.
