Purpose. Meaning.
These are things that most people search for, yet so few find. Why is that?
The answer lies in the difference between dreams and goals.
Productivity Expert Gene Donahue says that “the difference between a dream and a goal is the written word.”
A dream carried around in your head remains just that - a dream. It only becomes a concrete goal once you carry out the physical act of writing it down. This shows yourself and the world that you are serious and that you expect this dream to happen.
Prioritize Your Goals
Writing down goals is not big news. What is important is figuring out what matters to you so you can prioritize your goals. This allows you to stop spending time on activities that do not achieve those things that are personally meaningful to you.
Everyone has a dream they want to achieve; some kind of fantasy that they want to fulfill. Yet before you spend the time and the energy on these dreams, do some soul searching to find that which gives you meaning and purpose in life.
That way you can focus your thoughts and time on things that really matter; not what’s important to someone else, but what makes you happy at the end of the day.
Setting a goal because you think it will bring you prestige or because it will make someone else happy will cause you to spend way too much energy toward it or not reach it at all.
You’ll spend more energy on it because your heart and soul won’t be into it fully. When you engage in activities that you wholeheartedly enjoy, it’s effortless and the time flies. Rather than feeling worn-out afterward, you’ll feel energized.
The trick is to schedule your time around meaningful tasks that give your life purpose.
