Stray dogs in Iraq wish there was shelter

December 1, 3:13 PM

A stray dog cared for by U.S. troops in Iraq
Originally published in the Los Angeles Times Blog, stray dogs in Iraq are currently being shot to prevent a rash of dog attacks that are happening there. Some children are even afraid to go to school due to fear of the roving dogs.

The dogs are being killed by veterinarians and police after luring them with poison meat and then shotting them.

Unfortunately for the strays, Iraq doesn't have shelters to protect the homeless dogs.

Some dogs are lucky enough to get rescued by U.S. troops, but without proper medical care, they don't always survive. One dog brought home by troops was diagnosed with rabies and had to be euthanized.
