After winning two clutch games at home, the San Jose Sharks traveled to play the Carolina Hurricanes.  The Sharks emerged victorious, notching their fifth straight win.

The two wins of the Los Angeles Kings and the Colorado Avalanche, who are tied with the Pittsburgh Penguins for the NHL lead, boosted the Sharks' ranking.  The Sharks asserted their dominance over the Hurricanes on Sunday, winning 5-1.

The Hurricanes' Brandon Sutter scored first, marking yet another game that the Sharks have given up the first goal.  However, the Sharks caught fire soon after.

Kent Huskins scored his first goal as a San Jose Shark early in the second period after he wrapped around the net and shot the puck at a tight angle.  Jason Demers recorded his tenth assist on Huskins' goal.

Brad Staubitz scored for the Sharks less than a minute and a half later, falling over as he converted the pass from Jody Shelley.

Defenseman Doug Murray scored his first of the season (his hat trick in the preseason doesn't count), when Joe Thornton passed from behind the net, bringing his league-leading assist total to 15.

Though the Sharks' offense was on display versus the Hurricanes, Evgeni Nabokov was just as impressive in net.  Nabby made several key saves to keep the Sharks' momentum alive, stopping 25 of 26 shots.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic made it 4-1 with a goal early in the third.  Patrick Marleau set Vlasic up using his speed to burn through defensemen.

Marleau recorded a goal of his own, tying him for second most goals scored in the NHL, on a power play slap shot that beat Carolina goalie Cam Ward.

The Sharks will play the Columbus Blue Jackets on November 4th and try to keep their winning streak alive.

Check back for updates on the injured Joe Pavelski and Devin Setoguchi.
