I like to think I have a well-stocked tool kit in the saddlebag of my Harley-Davidson Low Rider. When I spotted the Harley-Davidson 8-in-1 screwdriver on the accessories board at my local dealer, I thought of all the tools (maybe eight?) I could replace with this one tool.

The 8-in-1 screwdriver is quality made by Snap-On and comes with a lifetime guarantee against breakage. The design conveniently stores all of the fittings in the handle. The tool includes a T-40, a T-30, a T-27, and a T-25 Torx® bit, a #1 and a #2 Phillips, a small slotted bit, and a large slotted bit. While some of the applications that use these tools I can’t see doing along the side of the highway (gas tank removal for instance), it is a great gadget for the small personal tool kit.
Harley-Davidson calls it the ideal tool for most of the screws on H-D products. I recently found one screw on my Low Rider where the 8-in-1 did not work.
While out for errands, eats, and just for fun one Saturday, my rear left turn signal bulb burnt out. I am in the habit of using hand signals in conjunction with electronic signals and with my husband following me, this was not a huge problem. I did, however, want to replace the bulb. We headed to an AutoZone. In the parking lot of the AutoZone we found out that the 8-in-1 screwdriver’s shaft was too large to allow the bit to reach the screw to remove the lens cover on the light. Before we could buy a new bulb, we had to first buy a skinny shafted Phillips screwdriver. Good thing AutoZone also stocks screwdrivers. With the turn signal bulb replaced, the lens cover back on, and the new skinny screwdriver added to my tool kit, we were back on the road.
In the big picture outlook of life, this was not a major set-back.   It is a lesson learned, however; the lesson being to double check your tool kit before heading out. While it may not be possible to predict every scenario, a well-stocked took kit will do wonders for getting you back on the road.
More info: The 8-in-1 screwdriver retails for about $20.00 and can usually be found at most Harley-Davidson dealerships.  It can also be purchased online at www.harley-davidson.com
