Your average American Girl doll retails for around $100 dollars.

Her outfits cost between $16 and $50.

Her bedding will run you $80.  Her trunk?  $159.

Lunch at American Girl Place New York is $24 per person.  Dinner is $26.

If you want to get her hair done at the American Girl Salon, that will be $20 - and up for special requests.  Ear-piercing (for a doll!) is $14.  A facial scrub (mind you, it's still a doll) is $5.

Not exactly Frugal Family material.

Luckily, this Friday, November 6, 2009, American Girl Place is hosting a FREE event.  At 3:30 PM, come to 609 Fifth Avenue at 49th Street for the ceremonial unveiling of their holiday window display.  Score some treats, gape at the splendor, and then get the heck out of there before they charge you for something!

Can't make it on Friday?  Sunday, November 8, from noon to 2PM, kids ages 8 and up can create three crafts inspired by the stories of Rebecca Rubin, American Girl's newest historical character: a charity box, a photo frame, and a carousel horse.  This event is FREE and also features a historical photo op!
