Hans Trunkenpolz, dead at 65

Hans Trunkenpolz, son of KTM's founder and recently retired from his life's work at KTM, died of a heart attack during a marathon in Bavaria.

Trunkenpolz was a successful motorsports participant but was probably best known for leading the KTM brand to eight consecutive Dakar Rally championships.  Under his watch KTM emerged as a top rally sport bike and made significant expansion into dual sport and street bikes.

KTM has been an innovator in off-road motorcycle development and in 2008 introduced the 1190 RC8, a v-twin superbike with Superbike World Championship aspirations.
