Indian Motocycles Cash for Clunkers
Trade in junk, take home a hunk of v-twin

Indian Motorcycles, a US manufacturer of stylish v-twin cruisers, announced their own Cash for Clunkers program today.

Indian is offering a $3,000 trade-in allowance against a 2009 Indian Chief for any motorcycle that is street legal, 100cc or larger, and in running and ridable condition. Mopeds, scooters, and dirt bikes are excluded and the trade-in must have a clean title.

The current owners of Indian, who recently brought Chris Craft back to life, are now working on yet another re-birth of the iconic motorcycle brand.  Their new bikes feature the famous Indian fenders, their own 105 cubic inch engine, and a substantial price tag.

There's no denying that motorcycles can be extremely fuel efficient, and that American dealers and manufacturers are being hit hard by the economic down turn.  Although the parallel is easy to see, two-wheel vehicles did not make it into the federal government's controversial, but reportedly successful, Cash for Clunkers stimulus program

Now Indian will discover if stimulus lightning can strike twice.
