Bikers are not all bad. Last Sunday, in fact, nearly a thousand of us turned out to the American Honda headquarters in Torrance to raise money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The event included a group ride along the Pacific Coast and an emotional presentation featuring nearly a dozen kids who have survived brain tumors, in part thanks to the work of the Foundation.
In total, LA Bikers donated or encouraged friends and family to donate $220,143, according to the Foundation's staff.
Here's the fine print:
"The national Ride for Kids program and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) promote childhood brain tumor research and provide family support through free literature about brain tumors, educational newsletters, online conferences and college scholarships. America's motorcycling community has helped the PBTF become the world's largest non-governmental source of funding for childhood brain tumor research.
This year there are 39 Ride for Kids events around the U.S., including a new event in Franklin, Tenn., on May 17. For more information, go to http://www.rideforkids.org/"
Next year, I hope to see you there, too.
