Minot, ND smashed a record high temperature Friday 11 / 6.
Minot, ND smashed a record high temperature Friday 11 / 6.

The same warm ridge of high pressure that brought record highs to Utah Wednesday 11 / 4 (see my recent National Weather Highlight Record highs smashed in Utah) brought mellow warmth all the way to North Dakota Friday 11 / 6.  Several communities set new daily record high temperatures:

  • Minot reached 75, obliterating its old 11 / 6 record of 70 (11 / 6 /1949).
  • The high at Dickinson, 73, beat an 11 / 6 / 1980 record of 72.
  • Williston tied an 11 / 6 / 1954 record high of 69.

Minot's high temperature of 75 may seem even more amazing given these other statistics:

  • The average 11 / 6 high for Minot is 41.
  • The average 11 / 6 low for Minot is 24.
  • The record 11 / 6 low for Minot is a bone-chilling -9 set in 1919.
