Why would you have your motorcycle detailed?
How many times do you have your car washed? Alot, right? I know I do, at least once a week, especially living in Florida with all the bugs.
Think about your motorcycle. Everything is exposed to the open roads. The dirt, the bugs, the salt in the air makes way for some nice damage, corrosion and rust. Oh, and who would believe the Sun. Yes the Sun causes damage to your motorcycle.
All of these can lead to major damage on your bike, if not taken care of properly. Not only with the aesthetics of the bike but the mechanics of it, which is way more important.
According to one detailing expert, you should have your motorcycle detailed at least once every six months. You should always wash your bike down, probably before you ride, since the bike is cool then. Every day washes (or a quick wipe down which most of us call it) maintain the bike in between the detailing.
It's important to know, that detailing is not just washing the bike. It entails spending an average of 6 - 8 hours on a bike, depending on the oxidation and rust issues, or the pitting on the chrome. Each metal part on the bike has a specific product that should be used. If you use the wrong product or don't remove it the right way you could add to the damage. Every little bolt stores water and causes rust issues if not taken care of. For sure heat and age are the biggest cause for damage to your engine and the only way to prevent the damage and stay on top is to have it detailed.
The other reason beside curb appeal, and I hate to bring this up is due to the economic recession a number of unfortunate bikers have had to sell or get ready to sell their bike. This is the time that I would recommend investing in the detailing. By doing so, you make the bike look like new, and it will help you sell your bike for what it's truly worth.
Detailing aesthetically erases miles, no matter what your odometer reads...
Until then, keep the shiny side up and the rubber side down..
