If you have a few hours to get a ride in, this is a route that I recommend where you can take in the cool sights of Tampa Bay as well as ride on some cool tarmac.
First stop is the Brandon Harley Davidson Dealership. It's worth the stop just for the driveway up to the store. As you enter, you may have a flashback to the drive up to Southfork Ranch. For those who don't know, it's where JR Ewing lived. Every detail was covered even the longhorn bull grazing in the front lawn. This store has everything for any rider in it. The best part of visiting this store was the staff. I was so impressed with the staff that I feel I have to mention them. There were no rude salesmen intimidating you with motorcycle information. Everyone was happily working and there to give immediate assistance if you needed it. Ron Alexander, Sales Consultant was very helpful in giving us information on the newest motorcycles and parts that were available. Once we started asking about customizing our bike, he introduced us to Terry Ward, the Design Manager. Terry's years and experience was obvious. He spent about an hour sitting with us going over our ideas and what we could do to the bike. Not once did we feel the pressure one normally receives in a retail location. It was a great experience and we will definitely be back to purchase my new bike.
Next, head on over to Bayshore Drive. Here you will drive through breathtaking views of Tampa Bay. The water on one side and million dollar homes on the other side. The sights are magnificent. As you drive you will pass joggers, dog walkers and once in a while the romantic couples out walking taking in their own sights. From here, you go onto Ybor City. An area in Tampa once known as the "bad" part of town has now become the trendy hotspot. A reflection of the French Quarters of New Orleans mixed with Duval Street in Key West make home to some of the trendy restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Now lets go to the other side of Tampa, the countryside. Head onto Route 60 East and you will find some great tarmac roads with little traffic and beautiful country farmland on each side of you. As you ride you almost forget you are in Florida, more like the Midwest.
As you head back and hunger sets in, a stop over at Babe's Pizza is a must. Known for their double decker pizza, sounds piggish, but tastes so good. To add to it all they are biker friendly. As we finished our pizza, at least as much as we could eat, the waitress asked us if we would like the rest to go, we'll pack it for the motorcycle. Sure enough, she came back with each slice wrapped in saran wrap and placed neatly in a brown paper bag, perfect to fit in the saddle bag.
This route gives you a couple of hours ride with great sights without going to far out of the way.
