The new yellow cab sticker reflecting the $0.50 State surcharge.

The new $0.50 surcharge on all taxi rides in New York State will begin Sunday, November 1.  This raises the starting price of a New York City yellow cab ride from $2.50 to $3.00.

In its press release, the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission was careful to note that the price increase is due to a State surcharge, not a TLC-instituted rate increase.

All taxis must purchase and display the new fare sticker on their rear doors by December 15 and have their meters reprogrammed to reflect the surcharge.  Stickers cost between $2.00 and $4.00 while meter reprogramming costs between $50.00 and $95.00 depending on the model of the meter.

All other rates of fare remain unchanged.
