An ultimate comfort drink of men in America is beer. Thus a compelling documentary has been made about America's favorite pass time alcoholic beverage of mass consumption...beer. Anat Baron former General Manager of Mike's Hard Lemonade vacated the beer business for film-making producing and development for over 40 films, mostly for television. In her first documentary she puts the spotlight on two small brewers, Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Delaware and Rhonda Kallman founder and CEO of New Century Brewing Co. Together with Jim Koch, she co-founded The Boston Beer Company, makers of Samuel Adams in 1984. What are the uphill battles that Calagione and Kallman have to face as so many other small brewers do?
In the informative and humorous documentary, Beer Wars the history of the politics of beer and corporate gunslinging is exposed. In reference to the mass production and consumption of Busch, Miller and Coors Light, Jim Koch of the Boston Beer states, "It is as if what we have learned about beer came from McDonald's."

Barat picks two great stories to follow in Calagione, a lovable surfer dude who constantly reminds one of Keanu Reeves but he throws and random historical relevance to his brews(Dogfish Head) and Kallman(Moonshot) reflects the dogged determination of acquiring the American Dream.
Beer Wars is a DVD worth checking out. It runs 89 minutes. The last 20 felt the slowest as the story takes more serious turns of opposition for the small brewers. This is the serious beer lovers film!
*A highlight for Angeleno's is the extensive Q & A about beer is conducted at the Santa Monica Boston Beanery location.
